Louisa May and Mr. Thoreau's Flute by Julie Dunlap and Marybeth Lorbiecki is set in Concord, Massachusetts, in the 1840's. Concord was a community of independent thinkers and artists one of whom was Henry David Thoreau. Louisa May Alcott met Thoreau when she was eight years old and he inspired her to observe the world around her and to become a writer.
